Ductless mini-splits are our launch specialty. Whether it's one bedroom that never cools down or whole-home, multi-zone comfort, a well-designed mini-split project starts with your rooms — square footage, layout, insulation and how you use each space — not with a catalog page.

How We Work
These are the commitments the matching service runs on. The workmanship itself belongs to the independent contractor you choose — and we're upfront about that too.
We match you with independent local businesses and check credentials like licensing and insurance where required before they join the network. Contractors own their estimates, contracts and warranties.
Requesting a match is free and doesn't commit you to anything. You compare the contractors we introduce, and you decide who — if anyone — you hire.
Your request is shared with a small number of screened contractors — never sold broadly. How we're paid is disclosed plainly: contractors may pay us for qualified introductions or completed jobs.
Our estimator explains zones, capacity and price factors before asking for any contact information, so you can talk to contractors with realistic expectations.
We only claim coverage where screened contractors actually operate. If we can't support your area yet, we say so instead of matching you badly.
The details live on two pages: how matching works and how contractors are screened.
Process
A matching marketplace, end to end: you describe the project, screened independent pros compete for it, and the decision stays yours.
Use the 60-second estimator or call us. For mini-split and HVAC projects you see a preliminary plan — zones, capacity range, price factors — before sharing any contact details.
We confirm screened, independent contractors cover your area, then share your request with at most 3 of them — never sold broadly. No coverage? We say so honestly.
Matched contractors contact you, ask their own follow-ups and schedule site visits. Each gives you their own written estimate — the price, contract and warranty are theirs.
Compare written estimates on equal footing and hire whoever earns it — or nobody. Requesting a match is free for homeowners and carries no obligation.

Mini-Split Basics
Five things worth knowing before you compare contractor quotes — through this marketplace or anywhere else.
Mini-splits shine where ductwork doesn’t exist or can’t reach: Chicago bungalows and two-flats, attic conversions, additions, garages and that one room that never matches the rest of the house. No ducts means no duct losses — and no tearing walls open.
A single-zone system pairs one indoor unit with one outdoor unit — simple and economical for one space. A multi-zone system runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit, so each area gets its own temperature. More zones add flexibility, but also cost and design decisions worth talking through.
Modern cold-climate mini-splits can heat effectively in below-zero weather, but equipment lines differ widely. Whether a mini-split can be your primary winter heat — or should work alongside your existing furnace — depends on the specific model and your home, and must be confirmed professionally.
The same equipment can perform beautifully or poorly depending on line-set work, refrigerant charge, condensate routing and unit placement. A good installation is what the brand warranty assumes — and it's the main reason to compare written scopes from more than one contractor.
Two homes with identical square footage can need very different equipment. Insulation, windows, ceiling height, sun exposure and room layout all change the math. The free estimator gives you an honest planning range; a contractor's load calculation and site visit set the final size.
Want more depth? Read the homeowner guides.
The independent contractors in the network work across the major mini-split manufacturers. Name a preference in the estimator, or let the contractor you choose recommend equipment based on your rooms and budget.
Brand names are the property of their respective manufacturers and are listed to describe equipment options. Individual contractors hold their own brand and dealer relationships.

FAQs
A matching marketplace. You describe your project once, and we share it with a small number of screened, independent local contractors who then contact you directly with their own estimates. We are not the contractor: the businesses we match own their licenses, quotes, contracts, workmanship and warranties. Mini-split installation is our launch specialty.
Nothing. Requesting a match is free for homeowners and carries no obligation to hire anyone. HVACandRoof may earn a disclosed fee or commission from contractors for qualified introductions or completed jobs — that's our business model, stated plainly, and it doesn't add to the contractor's price obligation to quote you directly.
Only the small number of screened contractors matched to your request — at most three — plus HVACandRoof itself to run the matching. Your request is never sold broadly or added to spam lists, and personal details are never sent to analytics.
Specific checks, not a vague badge: active licensing where the trade and location require it, liability insurance, workers' compensation where applicable, business registration, a genuine service area, relevant specialty experience, complaint history, and periodic reverification. It reduces risk; it doesn't replace your own judgment or the contractor's written contract. The full checklist is on our screening page.
It depends on the number of zones, the equipment brand and capacity, line-set routing, electrical work and installation access. Rather than quote a generic number, the estimator gives you a preliminary project summary in about a minute, and the matched contractors confirm firm price ranges after reviewing the details — before any work is scheduled.
A zone is an area with its own indoor unit and its own temperature control. Some homes do well with a single zone covering one problem room; others benefit from a unit in each main living area and bedroom. Room count, layout, square footage and how you use each space all matter. The estimator suggests a likely range, and a contractor's site visit settles the final count.
No. The estimator produces a planning estimate: a likely project type, zone count and capacity range based on what you enter. Final equipment selection and pricing require an on-site review of insulation, windows, electrical service, room layout and installation conditions — and the binding quote always comes from the contractor you choose, in writing.
No. You can compare the estimates you receive, hire one contractor, or hire nobody. If you'd rather stop hearing from a matched contractor, tell them or tell us — responsiveness and respect for that are part of staying in the network.
Yes, though roofing coverage is rolling out more gradually than our HVAC network. We confirm real roofer availability for your area before sharing your request with anyone — if we can't support your ZIP code yet, we say so instead of pretending.
We're launching deliberately, starting with pilot areas in Illinois and Texas, and expanding as screened contractors join. Coverage is confirmed per request: send your ZIP code and we'll tell you honestly whether we can match you today.
